Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea is the latest animated film from Studio Ghibli, written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The story follows a pink fish who runs away from home under the sea (in fact she swims, not runs) to see the surface of water.
Unfortunately she ends up stranded in a bottle lying on the shore which later she is rescued by a five year old boy, Sosuke. He calls her ‘Po-nyo’ (She also has real name, but it’s impossible to remember!) and vows to protect Ponyo forever.
Not for long until her father realizes that a human has taken her away, he uses his magic power to summon wave to get his daughter back.
Ponyo upsets and tries to break away again, she wants to be human so she can be with Sosuke. but there is catastrophic consequence that follows her decision.
崖の上のポニョ is another great film from Studio Ghibli. Miyazaki has successfully captivated all my attention with good storyline and highly detailed drawing (not in sense of pixel but the details of every movement in the film). The music by Joe Hisaishi blends together with Miyazaki’s film brilliantly as always.
In my personal opinion the story isn’t sophisticate when comparing to 千と千尋の神隠し (SPIRITED AWAY). However, Ponyo is irresistibly cute! Thanks to @risingtop, you can read his review (in Thai) here.
Now I have to go practicing this lovely song 崖の上のポニョ!
