Following Mysterio’s dying act of framing Peter Parker for murder and exposing his secret identity to the world, Peter’s life was turned upside down. The relentless public scrutiny threatened not only his own future but also the lives of those closest to him, culminating in MJ and Ned losing their acceptances to MIT in the wake of the scandal.
Desperate to undo the damage, Peter asked Doctor Strange to cast a spell making the world forget his secret identity. However, Peter’s constant interruptions to carve out exceptions for his loved ones destabilized the magic. The spell spiraled out of control, ripping a fracture in the multiverse that pulled in alternate-universe villains who already knew Peter’s secret. To seal the rift and send the visitors home safely, Strange explained that the only solution was to complete the original spell with no exceptions, wiping Peter Parker from the minds of everyone.
Directed by American filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, SPIDER-MAN: Brand New Day is a superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character. Serving as a direct sequel to No Way Home, the movie takes place four years after Doctor Strange cast the spell that erased Peter Parker from everyone’s memory.

SPIDER-MAN: Brand New Day premiered in Los Angeles 27 July 2026. The film was theatrically released in the United States on 31 July and has grossed over $1 billion worldwide in six days, becoming the highest-grossing film of 2026.
