Seventeen years ago, InGen Laboratory 03 was conducting experiments on hybrid dinosaurs such as Mutadon, a bioengineered mutant hybrid of Velociraptor and Pteranodon DNA. Located on Île Saint-Hubert in the Atlantic Ocean, the facility operated as a subsidiary of Masrani Global Corporation, specializing in genetic sequencing and development.
Île Saint-Hubert is an island located in the Atlantic Ocean approximately 360 km east of French Guiana, with approximate coordinates of 5°06’47.5″ N latitude and 49°04’45.1″ W longitude. This places it off the northeastern coast of South America, in the tropical Atlantic water.
During a routine operation, InGen employee Williams (Adam Loxley) accidentally dropped a Snickers bar wrapper while entering a high-security chamber. The chamber featured a dual-key entry system that required keys from both sides of the outer door to open. Unbeknownst to anyone, the wrapper slipped past the outer door and was then sucked into the inner door’s mechanism. This seemingly insignificant oversight triggered an electrical malfunction that prevented the inner door from closing completely. The system immediately registered a containment failure. Unable to resolve the issue, it crashed and forced a reboot.
Panic erupted among the employees as the system blared an announcement of containment failure. When an employee spotted gunfire in the D-Rex chamber and realized the creature had broken free, he quickly hit the red button, initiating an immediate facility lockdown. Williams was now trapped alone inside the chamber. Fellow scientist Desanto (Niamh Finlay) rushed back to save him, knowing both their keys were needed to open the door. But as D-Rex emerged directly behind Williams, she faced an impossible choice: save her colleague or prevent the creature’s escape. She was forced to abandon Williams to his gruesome fate.
Present day… It’s been thirty-two years since dinosaurs returned. But the modern climate and disease have taken their toll, and public interest has waned. Most surviving species now only thrive in a tropical band around the equator. Human travel there is expressly forbidden.
Advised by paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis, Parker-Genix Pharmaceutical Engineering owner Mr. Parker tasks Martin Krebs (Rupert Friend) with retrieving blood and tissue samples from the three largest living dinosaurs: Titanosaurus, Mosasaurus, and Quetzalcoatlus. These samples are indispensable for developing a groundbreaking drug to prevent heart disease, as the unique DNA cannot be synthesized without authentic specimens. Knowing the extreme difficulty and secrecy involved, Martin contacts mercenary Zora Bennett (Scarlett Johansson), having heard of her unparalleled reputation for acquiring anything without asking inconvenient questions. Zora initially refuses but changes her mind when Krebs offers a staggering ten million dollars for the job.
Titanosaurus is a genus of sauropod dinosaurs that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 70 million years ago. The name means “titanic lizard,” referring to its large size. It was first described in 1877 by Richard Lydekker based on fossils found in India. The size of Titanosaurus itself is somewhat uncertain because it is considered a dubious genus with fragmentary fossils. However, titanosaurs like Titanosaurus are part of a group that includes some of the largest land animals to have ever lived. Estimates suggest Titanosaurus was around 9 to 12 meters long, with some of the largest individuals possibly reaching up to about 37 meters.
Mosasaurus is a large, extinct marine reptile that lived during the Late Cretaceous period. It belongs to the family Mosasauridae, a group of powerful, air-breathing aquatic reptiles adapted to life in warm, shallow inland seas. The largest species, Mosasaurus hoffmannii, can reach lengths up to about 17 meters, making it one of the largest marine predators of its time.
Quetzalcoatlus is a genus of large pterosaurs that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, known for being among the largest flying animals of all time. It has a wingspan estimated to be between 10 and 12 meters. Despite its immense size, Quetzalcoatlus is lightly built, possessing thin-walled hollow bones and large air sacs which help reduce weight for flight.
Martin and Zora find Dr. Henry Loomis (Jonathan Bailey) at the museum where he works. The once-bustling institution is in the process of closing its doors due to dwindling public interest in dinosaurs, which are dying out as the modern climate proves lethal to them in this Neo-Jurassic Age. Martin explains that Henry must join the team as their on-site advisor because he’s the only one qualified to identify the animals and understand their behavior. Henry, well aware of the extreme danger and the mission’s illegal nature, is hesitant. But Martin knows just how to push his buttons. He points out that for a paleontologist of Henry’s caliber, until he’s witnessed real dinosaurs in their natural habitat, he’s nothing more than a guy who visits zoos. Henry eventually gives in and joins the team.
They head to a bar in Paramaribo, where Zora enlists her longtime friend Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali) to lead the secret mission. They board Duncan’s boat along with LeClerc (Bechir Sylvain), Nina (Philippine Velge), and Bobby Atwater (Ed Skrein), setting course for Île Saint-Hubert.
During the trip, they intercept a radio distress call. Duncan decides to turn the boat around to rescue a family: Reuben Delgado (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), his daughters Teresa (Luna Blaise) and Isabella (Audrina Miranda), and Teresa’s boyfriend Xavier Dobbs (David Iacono), whose boat was destroyed by a Mosasaur.
Upon learning the team’s target is a Mosasaurus, Reuben is overcome with terror and desperately pleads with them to drop his family off at any port. However, his plea is cut short when a group of Spinosaurus attacks the boat, forcing Duncan to maneuver into shallow water. Fearing for their lives, Reuben tells Teresa to go inside and radio a Mayday, sending their coordinates. Overhearing this, Martin races after Teresa to stop her.
During their struggle, Teresa loses her balance and slips overboard. Hanging precariously from the side of the boat, she begs Martin for help, but he simply watches as she loses her grip and falls into the water. Xavier immediately dives in to rescue her, followed by Reuben and Isabella. Moments later, the Mosasaurus forces the ship aground on the beach of Île Saint-Hubert.
Directed by British filmmaker Gareth Edwards from a screenplay by David Koepp, JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH is the fourth film in the Jurassic World series within the JURASSIC PARK franchise. Its story unfolds three years after the events of JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION.
It feels like they’re trying to mimic the essence of the first Jurassic Park but ultimately fail to capture the authenticity of what makes the original so beloved to this day. There’s a corporate villain whose fate we can all predict. There’s a family with children, but they’re treated like annoying characters who seem useless, especially when separated from the main team. There are unnecessary tragic backstories that don’t translate into character development and only pad the runtime.
The dinosaurs are probably among the worst in the entire franchise. The dinosaurs can move discreetly and quietly, which defies everything we know about the creature. In one scene, the T-Rex doesn’t react to sound and instead decides it will go drink water from a nearby river, giving Reuben’s family a convenient head start on an inflatable emergency raft before chasing after them.
Meanwhile, the gigantic Titanosaurus can somehow hide completely in open grassland and the ground doesn’t even tremble when they walk. And finally, there’s the D-Rex design that looks like an Alien-inspired dinosaur.
JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH premiered at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London on 17 June 2025. The film was theatrically released in the United States and Canada on 2 July.
