After the dinosaurs escape from the island in FALLEN KINGDOM, they spread across the globe. Humans have no choice but to find ways to coexist with these dinosaurs, even though some species are dangerous.
Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) continues working to protect dinosaurs alongside Franklin (Justice Smith) and Zia (Zia Daniella Pineda), with only the three of them remaining in an even more dire situation than in the previous film. They must find evidence of illegal dinosaur trafficking and report it to the responsible authorities to arrest them for animal cruelty.
Claire and Owen (Chris Pratt) now live together with Maisie (Isabella Sermon) in a small cabin outside the city, hiding from those who want to capture Maisie, a human clone who holds the key to genetic engineering secrets that could potentially save countless lives.
Maisie is initially presented as the granddaughter of Sir Benjamin Lockwood, a business partner of John Hammond, but it is later revealed that she is actually a clone of Benjamin’s deceased daughter, Charlotte Lockwood, making her both a clone and the daughter of Charlotte through genetic manipulation.
The villain in this film is Biosyn, a company that has been InGen’s rival since JURASSIC PARK. Biosyn sent Lewis Dodgson (Cameron Thor) to negotiate with Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight), JURASSIC PARK’s programmer, to steal dinosaur embryos, which became the root cause of everything falling apart in the first film.
Currently, Lewis Dodgson (Campbell Scott) has become the CEO of Biosyn, a company that projects an image of valuing dinosaurs and claims to use dinosaur DNA to find cures for various diseases. However, Biosyn scientist Henry Wu (BD Wong), the former InGen geneticist who originally created the dinosaurs for Jurassic Park and later worked for Masrani Global Corporation in Jurassic World, has secretly created genetically modified giant locusts and sends them to attack farms that don’t use Biosyn seeds.
Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), a paleobotanist who survived the original Jurassic Park disaster in 1993, receives an invitation from Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), the chaos theory mathematician and fellow Jurassic Park survivor who now works for Biosyn, to infiltrate the company and find evidence that the locusts were created by Biosyn. She then travels to convince Alan Grant (Sam Neill), the paleontologist who also survived the original park, to accompany her on the mission.
Meanwhile, Lewis Dodgson hires mercenaries to kidnap Maisie and Blue’s offspring Beta. They both are taken to Biosyn because Henry Wu believes that the DNA of Maisie and Beta holds the key to fixing the flaws in the giant locusts he created.
Directed by American filmmaker Colin Trevorrow from the screenplay he co-wrote with Emily Carmichael, JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION is the sixth installment in the Jurassic Park film series, and a terrible installment. The script is messy with too many character timelines crammed in, making the film nearly 150 minutes long without any character development.
It feels like they only thought about dropping in gimmicks at specific points to make fans nostalgic about Jurassic Park. I hate how they deliberately designed Lewis Dodgson to look like Apple’s Tim Cook, only to give him the same demise as Dennis in the first film. It’s absolutely horrendous.
Besides JURASSIC WORLD’s main characters, they also drag in the protagonists from JURASSIC PARK (no idea how much they spent on those salaries). Since there are so many main characters in this film, they turn the supporting cast into bland NPC-level characters who randomly show up to help the protagonists without any explanation or motivation. This doesn’t even include the villain who can somehow train genetically modified Velociraptors to attack targets using a laser pointer.
Jeff Goldblum as Ian Malcolm is the most logical character in the story, delivering a natural and hilarious performance. He’s easily the best thing about JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION.
JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION premiered in Mexico City on 23 May 2022. The film was theatrically released in the United States on 10 June.
The original actor who played Lewis Dodgson in Jurassic Park (1993), Cameron Thor, did not return to reprise his role in Jurassic World Dominion because he is a convicted sex offender who was serving time in prison. Due to his criminal record and the potential negative impact on the film’s reputation and production environment, the role was recast with actor Campbell Scott.
