It’s been three years since the theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by escaped dinosaurs. The island of Isla Nublar now sits abandoned, with the surviving dinosaurs left to fend for themselves in the jungle. When the island’s dormant volcano begins to erupt, a former raptor trainer and the park’s former operations manager launch a rescue mission to save the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. After the closure of a href=”/jurassic-world”>JURASSIC WORLD in 2015, a team of mercenaries secretly infiltrates Isla Nublar to collect genetic samples from the Indominus that lies submerged beneath the lagoon. However, they are attacked by a T-Rex, forcing them to flee the island. The lagoon’s floodgate system malfunctions, allowing the Mosasaurus to escape from the lagoon into the ocean.
Three years later, the U.S. Senate learns about the volcano on Isla Nublar that is about to erupt. They debate whether or not to rescue the dinosaurs from this disaster.
Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), a mathematician who specializes in chaos theory and survivor of the original Jurassic Park disaster in 1993 where he was invited to evaluate the park’s safety but nearly lost his life, gives his opinion that the cloned animals like dinosaurs should naturally go extinct without human interference.
Meanwhile, Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) has changed her life from someone who once viewed dinosaurs as merely corporate assets to becoming the leader of the Dinosaur Protection Group, trying to find ways to help and protect the dinosaurs. However, after the U.S. Congress announces that it will not intervene to help the dinosaurs trapped on the island, her hope is fading.
But things take a turn for the better when Claire receives a phone call from Benjamin Lockwood (James Cromwell), a former co-founder of InGen. Benjamin invites her to meet and plan the relocation of the dinosaurs to another prepared island. They need Claire to access the dinosaur tracking system to capture them and move them to safety, especially Blue, who is a highly intelligent creature and the last Velociraptor on Earth.
Claire enlists Owen (Chris Pratt), a former Velociraptor trainer and fellow survivor of the Jurassic World disaster, to join her team as they head to Isla Nublar, along with Zia (Daniella Pineda), a paleoveterinarian, and Franklin (Justice Smith), a systems analyst, both members of the Dinosaur Protection Group.
A paleoveterinarian is a veterinarian who specializes in the study and theoretical care of ancient animals, particularly dinosaurs. This role is largely conceptual or speculative today since dinosaurs and many prehistoric creatures are extinct. Paleoveterinarians focus on how prehistoric animals might have been treated medically, often using paleopathology to understand their health issues and conditions. They may extrapolate treatments based on knowledge of modern animals, especially birds and reptiles, which are their closest living relatives.
Directed by Spanish filmmaker J.A. Bayona and written by Derek Connolly and Colin Trevorrow, JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM is essentially JURASSIC PARK (1993) mixed with THE LOST WORLD (1997), featuring many memorable scenes that feel deliberately put in just to remind us that we’ve been watching this film series for over 25 years! It’s pure mindless entertainment.
JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM premiered at the WiZink Center in Madrid on 21 May 2018. The film was theatrically released in the United States on 22 June.
