Félix (Eric Nantchouang) and Alma (Asma Messaoudene) meet at a festival in Paris on a hot summer evening. They dance and spend the night together in the park. Alma leaves the next morning, boarding a train bound for Die to go on vacation with her family in the south of France

Félix is head over heels in love with Alma, so he decides to surprise her with a visit. He enlists his best friend Chérif (Salif Cissé), and uses a ride-sharing app to deceive Édouard (Édouard Sulpice), making him believe that he would go on a road trip with two girls.

Édouard is annoyed when he sees Félix and Chérif, who are not what he expected. He reluctantly agrees to drive them to the campsite in the Drôme Valley. It is later revealed that Édouard is using his mother’s car for carpooling without her permission, hoping to pick up girls for the road trip.

Upon arriving at their destination, Félix urges Édouard to drive around the town for sightseeing. However, the car malfunctions after running over a flowerpot, stranding them at the campsite for at least a week until the car can be repaired. Unable to afford the repairs and a room, and too afraid to tell his mother the truth, Édouard is forced to share a tent with Chérif.

Félix phones Alma to surprise her, but his plan is thwarted when she is not pleased by his uninvited arrival. She finds it disquieting that he would show up without warning, but she agrees to meet him tomorrow evening at a café in town. Félix is delighted to be with Alma, and they spend a day together enjoying each other’s company. However, he is frustrated when she does not want him to meet her family. He asks her if it is because of the color of his skin, but she insists that is not the reason.

Chérif befriends a single mother, Héléna (Ana Blagojevic), and he gradually develops romantic feelings for her. However, he denies it when Félix asks, asserting that not all good relationships need to be based on sex or love.

À L’ABORDAGE is a heartwarming and humorous road trip film about three friends from different backgrounds who embark on an unexpected journey that bonds them together in ways they never could have imagined. Each character is complex and relatable, and the scenarios they encounter are both natural and believable. The script is well-written and features plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, making the film an enjoyable watch from start to finish.

À L’ABORDAGE premiered at Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin on 25 February 2020. The film was theatrically released in France on 21 July 2021.
