THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN
Steven Spielberg
(2011)

This 3D animated film is based on the world-famous French language comic book series “Les Aventures de Tintin” by Belgian cartoonist Hergé. The story follows a young journalist named Tintin who embarks on adventures to uncover the truth, accompanied by his clever dog Snowy. While the Tintin comic series consists of 24 published stories in total, this film directed by Steven Spielberg draws its storyline from three specific books: “Le Crabe aux pinces d’or (The Crab with the Golden Claws),” “Le Secret de la Licorne (The Secret of the Unicorn),” and “Le Trésor de Rackham le Rouge (Red Rackham’s Treasure).”

This production doesn’t just have an impressive director, the writing team is equally exceptional. The screenplay was written by three talented writers: Steven Moffat, who wrote the British series “Sherlock”; Edgar Wright, director/writer of “Hot Fuzz” and “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World”; and finally Joe Cornish, director/writer who just made his feature film debut with “Attack the Block” in the middle of last year.

“The Adventures of Tintin” is an incredibly entertaining film that’s well worth the wait. The pacing is fast and dynamic, packed with thrilling action sequences that capture the spirit of “Indiana Jones” mixed with “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
John Williams’ musical score perfectly complements this type of adventure film. The rendering quality is remarkably detailed. It’s unbelievable how crisp and clear everything looks, with meticulous attention paid to every element, even objects you wouldn’t expect to need such fine detail. There are numerous camera angles and scenes that make it clear this could never have been achieved with live-action actors. Highly recommended to see it in 3D!

THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN premiered in Brussels on 22 October 2011. The film was theatrically released in Europe on 26 October, and in the United States on 21 December.
