(2012)
The story takes place after the fall of Pahlavi dynasty, during The Iranian Revolution in 1979. Islamic militants take over the U.S. embassy in Tehran in retaliation for the country’s support of the recently deposed Shah. Most of the embassy staff are taken as hostages, however, six people escape and hide in Canadian ambassador’s residence.
It is only a matter of time until the rebel troops find out that six of the staff are missing. If they are caught on the street, they will be charged as U.S. spies and possibly will be executed. The U.S. State Department begins to explore options get them out. CIA specialist Tony Mendez is brought in for consultation, he suggests a plan which might work.
The attention to detail is amazing. Everything feels so real and intensely powerful. Argo is definitely one of the most gripping films this year. Ben Affleck, once again, has proven to be a brilliant director.
