DEVIL

The story involves supernatural myth within modern society, when a person committing suicide by jumping from a building. The voice-over begins to narrate a story about the devil who sometimes roams the human world by drawing sinners into a place and make them suffer before taking their souls, and it always starts with a suicide.

A group of five strangers are trapped inside an elevator in the same building that the police find suicide victim. Horrifyingly a man is mysteriously killed in the elevator where there is no way out, each of them starts to panic and thinks that one of them must be the killer. The longer they stay in the elevator, the less chance they would have to survive.

DEVIL is the first film from The Night Chronicles based on a story by M. Night Shyamalan. Luckily M. Night did not write or direct the film this time. (After he sabotaged THE LAST AIRBENDER, he should never be allowed to write screenplay or direct again, ever.) The screenplay of Devil is written by Brian Nelson, the film is directed by John Erick Dowdle. The screenplay is quite interesting in term of psychological thriller, distracting the audience from finding who is the real devil with dialogue, darkness, and sound effects. No familiar faces, but all of their performances are quite good and believable. Love the elevator concept, it is one of the scariest places on earth, when you are stuck in a metal box hanging 100 meters above the ground.

  • whoa, love the storyline. couldn’t agree more on elevator concept.
