The Men Who Stare at Goats
2009 | Grant Heslov
It is a film adaptation from a book with same title written by Jon Ronson about the U.S. Army’s exploration of new age concepts and potential military application of the paranormal.
The film follows Bob (Ewan McGregor), a reporter who stumbles onto Lyn Cassady (George Clooney), the legendary special force operator who soon reveals that he was a part of an ฤmerican army unit who were trained to be psychic spies a.k.a. Jedi Warriors. Each of them possesses unique special ability including invisibility, remote viewing, walk through walls, and the most dangerous of all, stop the beating heart by just staring.
The performances of two main actors, Ewan McGregor and George Clooney are remarkable. However the story is somehow confusing, it is like a bit of this here and there. It fails to captivate the audience’s attention entirely. It somehow lacks of consistency in storytelling. I must admit that there are several super amusing scenes. But to tell the truth, I half expected that Ewan would pull out a real lightsaber and transform into Obi-Wan Kenobi.
