After the death of her abusive husband, a woman reluctantly joins her in-laws at their secluded family home. One by one, they are transformed into Deadites, turning the gathering into a family reunion from hell. Tucked away in the attic of the Price family vacation home, Joseph (Hunter Doohan) has been gathering research for his new book. He sifts through the archives of his grandfather Dr. Benjamin Price (Michael Hurst) and uncovers an audio recording titled “Log 4: The Fabled Necronomicon” detailing the lore of the Book of the Dead.

The tape reveals Benjamin claiming the book is real and a group known as the Circle of Wise Men currently holds it. They ignore his warnings and read the unholy passages to unleash a horde of flesh-possessing demons as malevolent as the devil himself.

In Log number 5, Benjamin claims to have found a powerful artifact capable of banishing demons back to hell. Benjamin explains that he has hidden this weapon behind runes and hexes in case the demons return. He insists that the item must remain that way, warning that if it’s unsealed, the demons will sense its presence, and they will stop at nothing to destroy it.

As Joseph listens to the audio, his pen rolls off the desk and drops to the floor. When he ducks under the desk to retrieve it, he discovers a small opening in the wall. Joseph removes a wooden panel, revealing a secret compartment. Hidden inside, he finds a dusty, wrapped package. Curious, Joseph cuts it open, uncovering the hidden weapon his grandfather mentioned. Completely oblivious to the danger, Joseph breaks the magical seal concealing the weapon from the Deadites.

Deadites are possessed or reanimated beings, typically human corpses or living people controlled by malicious demonic spirits. They can take on nearly any form although the full extent and limitations of this ability remain unknown. Deadites may revert to their original human forms to deceive others or transform into far stranger and more monstrous shapes. They are usually summoned through passages in the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis. Unlike ordinary zombies Deadites are often intelligent, talkative, and capable of using the memories and personalities of the people they possess. They can be difficult to identify because they sometimes imitate their host’s original appearance. Common warning signs include unnatural eyes, discolored or decaying skin, distorted features, and superhuman behavior.

Meanwhile, at the lake, the weapon’s presence awakens a Deadite (Greta van den Brink). Using hooks and fishing lines, it snatches Jared (Keanu Karim) from the dock and drags him underwater while his friend Leo (Victory Ndukwe) takes a call from his worried girlfriend in the nearby forest.

Moments later, Leo returns and grows frustrated to find Jared gone. Suddenly, he spots Jared in the middle of the lake, thrashing in the water and crying for help. Leo frantically speeds out on a boat to rescue his friend. However, when Leo pulls him from the water, he is horrified to see that Jared is already dead and missing his lower half. Jessica flips the boat, plunging Leo into the lake. Leo resurfaces to find Jessica standing on the overturned vessel. The Deadite uses magic to superheat the water around Leo, boiling him alive.

While celebrating his birthday at Will’s nightclub with his girlfriend Thya (Luciane Buchanan), Joseph receives a pen from Will (George Pullar) and his wife Alice (Souheila Yacoub). Joseph appears strangely startled by the gift as if he recognizes it. Thya is unimpressed and calls it just a pen, prompting Will to clarify it is an expensive Belvoir pen. Will explains he bought it to encourage Joseph to finally finish writing, pointing out that this is the fifth book he has started.

Tension rises as Will and Alice get into a heated argument. Alice eventually walks out in frustration and invites Thya to join her for a cigarette. Will stays behind and confides in Joseph that Alice constantly tries to provoke him, adding that he wants a child but she refuses to quit smoking.

The situation escalates when Will follows Alice outside and jokingly accuses her of badmouthing him to his employee Mike (Tapiwa Soropa). He tries to persuade Alice to come back inside, but she remains upset that he makes her look like a hysterical drunk. Mike apologizes, but Alice refuses to listen. Furious, Will decides to drive himself home despite Joseph trying to intervene. Will shoves Joseph aside before climbing into his car and speeding away.

Meanwhile, the Deadite emerges from the lake and walks through the forest. It waits patiently until it senses Will’s car approaching. It uses dark magic to interfere with the radio and distracts Will’s eyes from the road before stepping directly into his path. By the time Will looks up, it is already too late. He slams on the brakes and crashes into the creature before losing control of the vehicle.

Moments later, Will regains consciousness and finds himself trapped inside his overturned car. He is horrified to see the Deadite’s severed head begin reciting a demonic passage. Leaking gasoline ignites a raging fire that engulfs the entire wreckage and burns Will to death.

EVIL DEAD BURN was theatrically released in the United States on 10 July 2026. The film has grossed $71 million worldwide on a budget of $20 million.
