Russian violinist, Viktoria Mullova is probably one of my most favorite violinists. In this album, she picked Violin Concerto in D Major, Op. 61 composed by Ludwig van Beethoven in 1806 and Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64 composed by Felix Mendelssohn in 1844. (And yes if you recall, it’s the same violin concerto performed by Janine Jansen.)

The violin concertos were conducted by English conductor, John Eliot Gardiner, accompanied by Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique. Overall this is an excellent interpretation of both concertos.

For audio sample, I’d like to recommend the first movement “Allegro molto appassionato” of medelssohn’s violin concerto in d major, op.61. Mullova’s version sounds exceptionally grand and mesmerizing.
