LOOPER
Rian Johnson
(2012)
In the year 2074, time travel is invented and it quickly becomes illegal. Tracking technology has been globally adopted, which makes it almost impossible to kill someone and get away with it.
Large crime organizations turn to illicit time travel to send back people they want to kill to a specific time in the past, the year 2044. Victims are strapped with silver bars as a payment before they are sent to be killed by assassins called “Loopers.”
When they want to terminate the contract with any Looper, they send that Looper back in time to be killed by himself, they call it “closing the loop.” That Looper will receive a very generous payment.
Joe Simmons (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is one of the Loopers in 2044 managed by Abe (Jeff Daniels), who was sent one way trip from 2074 to run the operation from here.
Joe heard a rumor that new boss emerges in the year 2074, people call him “Rainmaker” and he intends to close all the loops. And one day, it is Joe’s turn to close his loop.
The plot is interesting. Well, I just don’t like Bruce Willis that much. There is also a scene which reminds me of Die Hard. Overall it is still entertaining to watch.
Looper was written and directed by Rian Johnson. I do feel a little bit disappointed, the story and dialogue is not as smart as BRICK. :|
