Catherine (Gwyneth Paltrow) is the daughter of a math professor, Robert (Anthony Hopkins) who goes mentally insane and dies of an aneurysm. Catherine dropped out of school to take care of him on her own. Not only has she inherited his genius for math but also she fears she may have inherited his madness.

Hal (Jake Gyllenhaal) is Robert’s protégé, and he is convinced to believe that Robert was doing his best work during his sick years, so he tries to finish Robert’s work. While Catherine doesn’t seem to trust anyone.

Proof is a family drama that unfolds against the backdrop of mathematical theory. The screenplay is absolutely brilliant as it’s the adaptation of the play by David Auburn which won a Pulitzer Prize in 2001. The screenplay for the movie is also written by David Auburn, so I don’t have to tell you again how perfect it is. The performances by Anthony Hopkins, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jake Gyllenhaal are marvelously captivating.

If you have a chance to watch this film, you should never miss it. You would be amazed how math can be so incredibly interesting! If i could present an academy award, I’d give it to this movie right now. This is definitely a must see for mathematicians, geeks and all nerds.

P.S. the song “I” must be one of the greatest songs of the century. It’s truly a brilliant idea! It doesn’t matter how he did it, what matters is why he did it.

Hal (Jake Gyllenhaal) ซึ่งเคยเป็นลูกศิษย์ของ Robert มาก่อน ก็เข้ามาใช้ชีวิตของ catherine เขาเชื่อว่าช่วงเวลาสุดท้ายของชีวิต Robert นั้น เขากำลังหาข้อพิสูจน์ทางทฤษฏีคณิตศาสตร์ที่ยิ่งใหญที่สุด และเขาต้องการมาสานต่อให้สำเร็จ ทางด้าน Catherine ก็ประสบสภาวะหดหู่ และไม่เชื่อใจใคร แล้วยังมีพี่สาวที่บินมาคอยเจ้ากี้เจ้าการชีวิตของเธออีก

ด้านบทเขียนได้ดีมากๆ ทั้งการต่อบทและเนื้อหา การตัดต่อการเล่าเรื่องก็ทำได้อย่างยอดเยี่ยม การแสดงไม่ต้องพูดถึง สุดยอดมากๆครับทุกคนเลย ใครชอบคณิตศาสตร์ หรือตัวเลข การพิสูจน์ทางทฤษฏี ไม่ควรพลาดด้วยประการทั้งปวง เป็นหนังเกี่ยวกับคณิศาสตร์และชีวิตที่ทำได้อย่างน่าทึ่งมากๆ ใครที่ไม่ชอบคณิตศาสตร์ก็ไปดูได้นะครับ แล้วคุณจะรู้ว่าหนังเรื่องนี้ทำให้คณิตศาสตร์ดูน่าสนใจขึ้นมา ยิ่งกว่าที่เคยเรียนกับอาจารย์ ที่สอนในโรงเรียนหรือมหาลัย อีกมากมายครับ
