Snow White and the Huntsman
2012 | Rupert Sanders
Another fantasy film based on the German fairy tale “Snow White” by the Brothers Grimm. We all know the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The King, his beloved Queen and their beautiful daughter live happily in their kingdom. After the Queen’s death, the King rescues beautiful captive, Ravenna from the dark army and soon marries her to become new Queen. Ravenna reveals herself as sorceress and kills the King, she then takes the throne and give order to lock Snow White up in the tower ever since.
The CGI is brilliant, Charlize Theron’s performance is the best thing of them all. Unfortunately, the Queen alone could not save the film. The story does not live up to any expectations, it is confusing and ultimately boring with too long unnecessary dramatic scenes and unbelievable character’s development. Snow White becomes Jeanne d’Arc in this film, she is destined to lead army and destroy the dark Queen! They used three screenwriters to write this screenplay, which is absurd. I cannot believe that one of the screenwriters is Hossein Amini who wrote screenplay for Drive.
As far as I know, Snow White and the Huntsman is the first feature length film directed by Rupert Sanders, which is of course disappointed. What I do not understand is how he could manage to direct big-budget-$170-million-film as his first feature length film.
