Wade Wilson, a wisecracking mercenary, is dishonorably discharged from the Canadian special forces and becomes a freelance mercenary. He falls in love with a prostitute named Vanessa. Later, he’s diagnosed with terminal cancer. A mysterious recruiter approaches Wade, offering an experimental treatment to awaken his latent mutant genes.
The treatment, conducted by Ajax and Angel Dust, is a horrific ordeal that activates Wade’s healing factor but leaves him hideously scarred. He escapes and adopts the alter ego Deadpool, spending a year training to hunt down Ajax for a cure.
DEADPOOL premiered at Le Grand Rex in Paris on 8 February 2016. It was theatrically released in the United States on 12 February.
The film achieved both financial and critical success, earning over $782 million against a $58 million budget, becoming the highest-grossing film in the X-Men series and the highest-grossing R-rated film at the time.
